About J Christopher Harman

J Christopher Harman has spent nearly twenty-five years as a teacher, working in hugely diverse settings with some of the most vulnerable individuals in the country, guiding them through moments of transformation and resilience. These experiences—on the very edges of human vulnerability and strength—have profoundly shaped his writing.

His debut novel, At Utopia’s Core, is a journey into the unknown, not just in terms of space but of the human condition. It’s a story about what happens when fear and courage collide. When technology tests our humanity. When hope flickers as a distant flame in the vastness of the void. Through richly detailed worlds and characters grappling with their own fragility, he explores the questions that linger within us all: What does it mean to survive? To evolve? To remain human?

If you’re drawn to stories that challenge perceptions, balance action with introspection, and stay with you long after the final page, his stories are for you.

When he's not writing, he can be found sometimes wandering the windswept hills of Dartmoor, reflecting on life’s complexities, and dreaming up new stories to share. At other times, however, those same hills serve as the backdrop for his deep love of mountain biking. These are the ways that he explores both the world around him and the world within him.

At Utopia's Core was a finalist in the Killer Nashville Claymore Award, and was longlisted for the Yeovil Literary Prize. Gary Gibson, author of numerous exceptional science fiction novels, including Stealing Light and Angel Stations called it 'entirely excellent.' Simon Ings, author of Headlong, The Eye: A Natural History and long-time writer for the Guardian newspaper, called in 'brave and ingenious.'
